International Musical Soloist Competition UPOL-ova svirel

The goals of the International Musical Competition UPOL-ova svirel are solistic performing, experience exchange between young musicians, motivation for further musical study as well as searching for new talents with promoting orchestral culture. Regardless of his education, everybody can participate in this competition. For further information please see articles below.

Svirel is an old Slovenian name for shepherd's pipe, but the word has originally a comprehensive musical meaning. Svirati means to play, to make music, no matter which instrument is being used. One of the first instruments humans used was naturally a pipe (flute), proved by one of the oldest instruments findings in the world - the flute from the Paleolithic cave Divje Babe.

Z izurjeno rokó
umajil si svireli.
Še slavci žvrgoleli
ne bi tako lepo,

kot ti zdaj, ves zavzet,
izvabljaš jim glasove
otožne, vedno nove,
in radujoče spet.
