UPOL-ova svirel - competition for chamber music and soloist
The goals of the International Musical Competition UPOL-ova svirel are solistic and chamber music performing, experience exchange between young musicians, motivation for further musical study as well as searching for new talents with promoting orchestral culture. Svirel is an old Slovenian name for shepherd's pipe, but the word has originally a comprehensive musical meaning. Svirati means to play, to make music, no matter which instrument is being used. One of the first instruments humans used was naturally a pipe (flute), proved by one of the oldest instruments findings in the world - the flute from the Paleolithic cave Divje Babe.
The winner of the competition UPOL-ova svirél 2010 is Zálan László Kovács. He won the Prize of the Soundtech company (1000€) and the statue UPOL-ova zlata svirél. Winners of the chamber groups competition are The Kvartet featuring Kaja Lešnjak, Nina Tafi, Tomaž Zevnik and Barbara Sladič. They won an instrument from the instrument maker company Schagerl in worth 1250€, a Prize from Lastra company (300€) and last but not least a concert in organization of the institution Imago Sloveniae.
